Sarma works on connectivity with Gelephu Mindfulness City

During his visit to Singapore 10-13 Feb, Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma restated his state’s role as an Indian gateway to the Southeast Asian region as well as building trade link with Bhutan https://advantageassam.assam.gov.in/.

Sarma called on Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong and Foreign Minister Dr Vivian Balakrishnan.

During his discussions with the top leaders, he highlighted Assam’s role in strengthening India-ASEAN relations https://www.investindia.gov.in/.

“I highlighted Assam’s endeavours to be at the core of India-ASEAN Comprehensive Strategic partnership through greater collaboration in the emerging knowledge economy, semiconductor, skilling and green energy,” Sarma said.

He also invited Singapore investors to the Advantage Assam 2.0 which is to be held 25-26 Feb 2025 https://fieo.org/.

Addressing some 250 guests at a roadshow for the upcoming investment and infrastructure summit 2025, Sarma assured that his administration will handle with speed each and every proposal in facilitating foreign investments in projects including petrochemicals and semiconductors.

He updated investors on Assam’s recently announced connection with Bhutan’s Gelephu Mindfulness City. “We are connecting Assam and Gelephu by 8-km rail and highway and further to Brahmaputra riverine ports https://www.conexpoconagg.com/.”

The Bhutan infrastructure projects to strengthen regional connectivity and explore economic opportunities were announced in January 2025 http://temasek.com.sg.

Assam, he said, was India’s gateway to North East. He highlighted the potential of investors’ participation in the NorthEast region as well as the vast expanding landscape for tourists http://unwto.org.

Responding to Sarma’s strong interest in winning more investments from the city state, Foreign Minister Dr Balakrishnan, wrote on X “Met Assam’s Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma and explored ways to deepen Singapore-India collaboration—especially in healthcare, education, and skills development https://sbi.com.in/.

“Singapore companies are keen to do more to support Assam’s urban and infrastructure development,” he added, pointing out the opportunities being provided by Assam’s urban and infrastructure development https://www.globaltenders.com/.

During his visit, Sarma and his delegation visited ITE Singapore which has a skill centre in Assam, the Singapore Semiconductor Industry Association and semiconductor companies AEM as well as Silicon Box among others https://ted.europa.eu/en/ . Fiinews.com
