Amaravati school site finalized, GIFT City campus in final stage
Singapore’s Global School Group (GSG) has started working on a S$200 million programme to set up more than two dozen schools in Andhra Pradesh, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh over the next five years, its chairman Atul Temurnikar said on 18 Sept.
“GSG has recently entered into MoUs with the three states to establish more than two dozen schools,” he said as the Singapore-origin global educational group celebrated its 25th anniversary.
The Memoranda of Understanding was signed with each of Andhra Pradesh, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh governments, and locations for the schools are being discussed, he said. A site for the GSG school has been finalized at Amaravati, the new capital city of Andhra Pradesh.
GSG is also in the final stages of discussions with GIFT City to set up a campus in the duty-free business zone near Ahmedabad, said Temurnikar.
Most of these schools will be in Indian Tier-1 cities with some in Tier-2 cities closer to major metros, he said.
“The investments in more than 2 dozen greenfield schools will cost about SGD200 million,” Temurnikar said at a celebration of his group’s 25-year of operating campuses, first of which began in Singapore.
GSG has already set up more than 20 schools in India since 2011 and operates more than 64 campuses across 11 countries in Asia and the Middle East, teaching more than 45,000 students from 70 nationalities.
“We have teachers and educationists who have worked across 100 countries, offering an education system of international standard including India’s CBSE and IB curricula,” Press Trust of India quoted Temurnikar as saying.
Furthermore, GSG is continuing to explore opportunities to acquire existing schools as it has done over the past 15 years in building its network of GSG-brand schools in major cities across India, he said. The GSG schools are in Noida, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore, Hyderabad, and the Tier-2 city of Madurai.
“We are bringing international educational connectivity to the table, including in India. We are also creating an understanding of international culture and a better grasp of cultural sensitivities,” he underlined.
In Singapore, GSG is establishing research hubs, including the centre of AI and Quantum Education, as well as a Silicon Valley Innovation Immersion programme for high-performance students. Going forward, such hubs will be set up in countries hosting GSG schools with large student population, including India, he said. fiinews.com
