Top leadership discussed renewable energy

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have welcomed the close alignment of their positions and the growing importance of Central Asia.

Amid a complex geopolitical situation, the leaders stressed the need for a free, open and rules-based international order. Building on their multilateral cooperation, Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and bilateral agreements, they reaffirmed their commitment to long-term, mutually beneficial cooperation for both peoples and future generations, agreeing to deepen political dialogue and the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership across trade, economy and investment, transport connectivity, digital transformation (IT, AI, space, cybersecurity), energy transition, critical minerals, food security, healthcare, pharmaceuticals and education.

PM Modi visited Uzbekistan on 29-30 Aug.

List of Outcomes: MoUs and Agreements

  1. Cultural Exchange Programme between the Governments of India and Uzbekistan for the years 2026-30.
  2. Letter of Intent between the Ministry of External Affairs, India, and the Cultural Heritage Agency of Uzbekistan for the conservation and restoration of ancient buddhist sites of Fayaz Tepa and KaraTepa located in Termez, Uzbekistan.
  3. Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the field of archival work between the National Archives under the Ministry of Culture of India and the Agency “Uzarchive” under the Ministry of Justice of Uzbekistan.
  4. Memorandum of Understanding between the Governments India and Uzbekistan on cooperation in the field of Ayurveda and other traditional systems of medicine.
  5. Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Mines, India, and Ministry of Mining Industry and Geology of Uzbekistan on Cooperation in the fields of Geology and Mineral Resources.
  6. Partnership Program on cooperation between the Ministry of Tourism, India, and the Tourism Committee of Uzbekistan in the field of tourism for 2026-28.
  7. Memorandum of Understanding between The Sushma Swaraj Institute of Foreign Service, Ministry of External Affairs, India, and the Diplomatic Academy at the University of World Economy and Diplomacy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan.
  8. Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of Finance, India, and the Ministry of Economy and Finance, Uzbekistan, for an Economic and Financial Dialogue.
  9. Agreement between the Ministry of Environment and Forest and Climate Change, India, and National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change, Uzbekistan, on cooperation in the field of environmental protection.
  10. Memorandum of Understanding between the Governments of India and Uzbekistan on Cooperation in the Field of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
  11. Cooperation Agreement between the Gujarat, India, and the Samarkand region of Uzbekistan for establishment of partnership relations.

Announcements

  1. Elevating the India-Uzbekistan Strategic Partnership to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership
  2. Grant of US$1 million for afforestation in the Aral Sea region
  3. Lal Bahadur Shastri Scholarship for Hindi Language (100 Scholarships)
  4. ICCR Sanskrit Chair at Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies
  5. Commercial Agreement between NPCI International Payments Ltd (NIPL) with National Interbank Processing Centre JSC (NIPC), Uzbekistan, to enable UPI Apps of India to scan national QR – UZQR for making merchant payments in Uzbekistan.

The Leaders agreed to establish Foreign Ministers led mechanism to provide high level coordination and oversight of the implementation of the agreements and arrangements reached between the two countries, as well as to facilitate the timely realisation of priority bilateral initiatives and projects.

The Leaders welcomed the discussions on advancing cooperation in the fields of renewable energy, modernization of energy infrastructure, and the implementation of prospective investment projects.

The Leaders agreed to explore for cooperation in the fields of geology, mining, nuclear energy, industrial cooperation, and critical & strategic minerals, including projects for the processing of mineral resources, production of value- added products and recycling initiatives.

They also expressed interest in encouraging Indian companies to participate in the development of prospective mineral deposits in Uzbekistan and Uzbek enterprises for joint collaboration in India. The Leaders expressed interest in extended cooperation in peaceful uses of nuclear energy.

The Leaders agreed to expand cooperation in the field of critical minerals through the implementation of joint projects in geological exploration, mining, mineral processing, and the development of integrated value chains. Fiinews.com
