Work starts on India’s new chancery and residential complex in Singapore
Minister of External Affairs S. Jaishankar and Singapore Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan jointly laid the foundation stone on 19 Aug for India’s new Chancery and Residential Building at Stevens Road, on the outskirts of the Central Business District, calling it a significant milestone in deepening India-Singapore bilateral relations.
Jaishankar said, “the chancery and resident complex, I think in many ways, reflect our relationship.”
“It (the complex) will be the face of India in Singapore. I’m sure it’ll be a very impressive place,” he underlined.
Project architect Steven Siow added that the complex is designed based on Indian architecture, specifically considering Rajasthan’s architectural motifs. Siow, who travelled to Rajasthan about 20 years ago to study the state’s architecture for this assignment, said materials such as marble will be selected from Rajasthan and other parts of India.
Delivering his congratulatory message, Balakrishnan said the new chancery reflects the expanding bilateral relations between the two countries. fiinews.com
