Huang notes chamber’s ongoing market expansion
As Singapore celebrated the early Indian settlers’ contribution to the island state’s sprouting economy a century ago, the present Indian business community was acknowledged for its efforts to strengthen relations between the vibrant city state and the fast-growing Indian market https://www.hcisingapore.gov.in/.
The Singapore Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s (SICCI) collaboration with Indian state governments and their chief ministers, such as the organisation of investment roadshows and establishment of connections for business delegations, has been crucial in unlocking opportunities for the island state’s businesses, a government official noted on 24 Jan.
“SICCI has played an instrumental role in strengthening Singapore’s business ties with India, a key economic partner with whom we mark 60 years of diplomatic relations this year,” Shawn Huang, senior parliamentary secretary in the finance ministry, said at the unveiling of a Centennial Memory Wall as a tribute to the pioneers and visionaries who have played a vital role in shaping the business landscape in Singapore over the past century http://indianchamber.org.
He also noted SICCI’s ongoing efforts to expand its internationalisation initiatives in Southeast Asia, South Asia, and beyond, and acknowledged that the chamber’s work compliments the broader efforts of Singaporean business-oriented leaders, including President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, who made a state visit to India 14-18 Jan and inaugurated the Singapore-India 60th anniversary celebrations https://www.sgx.com/.
“I am confident that SICCI will continue to fly Singapore’s flag high across borders, forging new opportunities and partnerships for our businesses,” Huang underlined.
From its humble beginnings in 1924, SICCI has grown into a key pillar of the prosperous city state’s business community that actively shapes the Singapore story, applauded Huang.
The 600-company member strong SICCI is celebrating the legacy of the Indian business community, dating back to their work for the past century.
The Wall has been unveiled at the Suntec Convention Centre in the central business district for public viewing.
“The SICCI’s Centennial Memory Wall will serve as a testament to the resilience and spirit of the entrepreneurs who have paved the way for future generations,” SICCI Chairman Neil Parekh said.
Highlighting the importance of community involvement in driving Singapore’s growth and prosperity, he said, “This initiative celebrates not only the contributions of the Indian business community but also reflects the diversity and strength of our nation.”
The unveiling will also mark a new chapter in SICCI’s mission to foster collaboration, create opportunities for business growth, and nurture a strong sense of community among the Indian business leaders of Singapore, said Parekh who is also a nominated Member of Parliament.
The SICCI’s Centennial Memory Wall is a source of pride, reflection, and inspiration and open to the public, he added.
Through this initiative, SICCI continues its commitment to preserving history while actively shaping the future of the Indian business community in Singapore and contributing to Singapore’s economic growth, Parekh said. fiinews.com
