Five greenfield economic corridors are being built at a cost of Rs.1.2 lakh crore
Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has laid the foundation stones for 29 National Highways worth Rs.4,000+ crore in Punjab on 10 Jan 2024.
The projects announced in Hoshiarpur included:
Implementation and 4-laning of Phagwara to Hoshiarpur bypass which will provide 100 kmph high-speed connectivity between the two cities and reduce travel time from 1 hour to 30 minutes. It will reduce congestion in the urban area and will provide direct connectivity to Hoshiarpur through National Highway 44 (GT Road), MoRTH said.
Further, the 4-laning of Ladowal Bypass connecting GT Road and National Highway 5 in Ludhiana will provide direct connectivity of Ludhiana-Ferozepur Highway to Delhi-Jalandhar Highway (National Highway 44).
The 4-laning of Talwandi Bhai to Firozpur section and Firozpur bypass will improve connectivity. Construction of these projects will increase safety and faster movement on the highways. There will be a direct increase in religious pilgrimage sites and inter-state connectivity located in the project areas.
Other new projects in terms of road connectivity included:
A 45 km, 4-lane bypass at Mukerian, Dasuiya and Bhogpur on Jalandhar to Pathankot route at a cost of Rs.1,600 crore.
A 30 km, 4-lane bypass from Tanda to Hoshiarpur at a cost of Rs.800 crore.
Five greenfield expressways and economic corridors are being built at a cost of Rs 1.2 lakh crore for better connectivity from Punjab to Delhi, Chandigarh, Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Haryana, he said.
Once the 670 km greenfield expressway Delhi-Amritsar-Katra project is completed, road travel from Amritsar to Delhi will be four hours and from Katra to Delhi in six hours. Fiinews.com
