Micron starts to build $2.8bn semiconductor plant in Gujarat
Global heavyweights Apple, Micron and others of such likes are looking for trustworthy partners and economies, says Minister of State for IT & Electronics, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, encouraging these corporations to set up supply chains in India, one of the fastest growing economies.
He has also set a revenue target of US$300 billion by 2025 for the Indian electronics sector, anticipating the tech and digital manufacturing sector to create 50 million jobs by then.
Speaking at the ‘Times of India Right To Excellence Tech Summit 2023’, he welcomed Micro’s US$2.8 billion semiconductor plant groundbreaking in Gujarat.
“India has carved out a niche and that’s one of the reasons why companies like Apple are coming to India,” he said during a fireside chat held on 26 Sept 2023.
Muralikrishnan B, president of Xiaomi India, added that 4G devices had helped bridge the digital divide in the country, and now the focus remains on rolling out 5G divide in the country, and now the focus remains on rolling out 5G smartphones.
