35 hydrogen cell-based trains included in Budget 2023-24
The Ministry of Railways has been allocated Rs.31,850 crore out of Gross Budgetary Support for planning “New Lines” in 2023-24, Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said in a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha 15 Mar 2023.
Development of 35 hydrogen fuel cell-based trains for various heritage/hill routes has been included in Budget 2023-24. These would cost Rs.2,800 crore, he updated the house on the Ministry’s projects.
Further, setting up of Rs.600 crore Hydrogen Infrastructure for heritage routes has also been included in the budget.
Overall, the Ministry has been allocated Rs.240,000 crore as Gross Budget Support (GBS) for Capital Expenditure during 2023-24.
It comprises Rs.185,000 crore under Capital, Rs.45,000 crore under Railway Safety Fund and Rs.10,000 crore as contribution towards Rashtriya Rail Sanraksha Kosh, he said. fiinews.com
