MoCA to handle bidding process for airline operators
The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW) would identify and develop water front infrastructure of Aerodromes and locations for starting seaplane operations in the country. It would also obtained required statutory clearances and approvals from relevant authorities including the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA), it was announced on 15 June 2021 in New Delhi.
MoCA would carry out bidding and select potential airlines operators based on their commercial consideration through bidding process, incorporate the locations and routes as identified by MoPSW as well as routes identified through bidding process in UDAN scheme document.
MoCA, Director General of Civil Aviation and Airport Authority of India will define the timelines for all activities involved in the development of facilities for starting seaplanes operations.
MoCA is also obliged to provide funds and financial support for water aerodromes awarded under RCS-UDAN scheme and coordinate with Chief Secretaries of all States for the Seaplanes operations.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the development of seaplane operation in the country was signed by MoPSW and MoCA on 15 June 2021.
Minister of State for MoCA Hardeep S Puri said the MoU will help in expediting the development of new water aerodromes and also operationalization of new seaplane routes in India.
This will give a big fillip to a new kind of tourism service in the country, he added.
