Durgam Cheruvu bridge and Singoli–Bhatwari Plant completed
L&T Construction said Metallurgical and Material Handling Business has secured an order from Northern Coalfields Limited for a coal processing and load-out package to be installed at the Dudhichua Mines located in Uttar Pradesh.
The scope of work involves EPC for a double stream coal sizing and transportation system covering a semi-mobile sizing system, high capacity specialty conveyors, and an automated loading system, said L&T on 17 Sept 2020.
Coal India Limited (CIL) envisions production to touch 1 billion tonnes by 2023-24 to meet the country’s demand for coal. The Northern Coalfields is a CIL subsidiary.
Elsewhere, Larsen & Toubro has completed a cable-stay bridge over the Durgam Cheruvu lake at Hyderabad.
It was inaugurated on 25 Sept 2020 by the Minister of Municipal Administration & Urban Development Industries, IT&C, Government of Telangana.
Constructed under Telangana’s Strategic Road Development Programme, the bridge will ease traffic flow towards HITEC City, reducing commute time from Jubilee Hills to Madhapur from 30 to a mere 10 minutes and the distance from Mind Space to Jubilee Hills by 2 km.
“A unique aspect of this bridge is that it has the world’s longest precast segmental span of 233.85 m in concrete for a cable-stay bridge,” elaborated S V Desai, Whole Time Director & Senior Executive Vice President (Civil Infrastructure), Larsen & Toubro.
The cable-stayed bridge portion is 435 m long, including the approaches at both ends, 25.8 m wide with a total of 52 stay cables. The approach viaduct and solid ramps are 309.8 m long with 1.8 m wide footpaths on both sides.
While the cables were procured from Germany, everything else is sourced from India making it a very example of the ‘Make in India’ movement.
On 21 September, Larsen & Toubro commissioned the 99-MW Singoli–Bhatwari Hydroelectric Power Plant. The commissioning of this run-of-the-river plant along the iconic Char Dham route will be a major boost to the state of Uttarakhand, with the plant’s capability of providing over 400 million
units of renewable energy per annum.
Situated about 25 km from Rudraprayag, the plant features a barrage, with a medium-sized intake pond near Ukhimath, a 12 km long headrace tunnel and a surge shaft over 180 m in-depth and is devoid of any rehabilitation and resettlement issues.
The plant houses 3 units of Voith Turbine generators of 33 MW each, equipped with a state-of-the-art switchyard and controlled via the latest Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) technology. #construction #projects #development #infrastructure /fiinews.com
