IRClass to chair IACS from July 2019

Arun Sharma, Executive Chairman of leading classification society Indian Register of Shipping (IRClass) has discussed broad issues related to marine industry with IMO Secretary General Kitack Lim.
Sharma said he has discussed the philosophy behind the United Nations Convention for the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), cyber security, the 2020 sulphur cap and Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships (MASS).
“Considering that IRClass is a Vice-Chair of the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS), it was useful to discuss with Lim these important issues from a class perspective,” said Sharma of his recent meeting with Lim during a visit to IMO office in London.
“I look forward to even greater co-operation between the IMO and IACS when IRClass takes over the Chairmanship at the beginning of July this year,” said Sharma.
The meeting provided insights into IMO’s views on key topics of interest within the maritime industry, he added. fiinews.com
