Indian MSMEs leads at Singapore Expo
A Singapore exhibition of Indian origin products has the potential to grow into a major platform for Indian exporters to reach out to the ASEAN markets of 640 million people of which 6.1 million are of Indian origin.
Forecasting this, India’s High Commissioner to Singapore, Jawed Ashraf, said “I see a great future for the Singapore International Indian Expo 2019 could be the platform for the much bigger effort at the export of traditional handicraft and our small and medium scale products to the wider Asean market of 640 million people of which 6.1 million are of Indian origin.”
The idea of inaugural India Week, being held with the expo, “can certainly grow into something that becomes a showcase and a platform not just for Indian heritage but also for our progress.”
The platform can also bring together India and Singapore together in every sense of the word and particularly in terms of trade, he said on 24 Jan 2019 inaugurating the four-day events on India.
“So, I think that we can look to the future with both confidence and optimism and we must certainly set our sight higher, our ambitions on a higher scale,” said Jawed Ashraf.
Over 100 Indian Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) are participating in the exhibition and India Week. Forty Indian origin Singapore exhibitors have joined the events.
A business forum, to be held 25 Jan 2019, aims to promote this very important export-oriented industries in the ASEAN region from Singapore which is a regional hub and gateway to the South East Asian markets, he said.
The Indian MSMEs account for 45 per cent of total Indian exports and 40 per cent of the country’s manufacturing output. As such, it is important to promote enterprises from the MSME sector in export markets, he stressed.
Singapore Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry Chairman Dr T. Chandroo will address the Indian industries at the forum “India-Singapore Trade: Sustainability, Strengths and Strategies – Making it work for Smaller Businesses”.
The President of Federation of Indian Export Organizations (FIEO), Ganesh Kumar Gupta, will give an insight into the wide range of exports available for the regional markets at the forum.
