JSPL takes first Rs.536 crore order

The Indian Railways is expected to import 4.5 lakh metric tons of rail valued at Rs.2,700 crore through a global tender. It has already placed a Rs.536 crore order for one lakh tonne with Jindal Steel and Power (JSPL).
“We will float a fresh global tender soon as we are yet to meet the shortfall of rails from SAIL,” Press Trust of India quoted a senior officlas of the railways on 21 Nov 2018.
Indian Railways requires 16.66 lakh metric tons of rails for 2018-19. Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) is expected to provide 10 lakh metric tons.
In 2017-18, SAIL was given commitment to supply 9.5 lakh metric tons while the requirement was 14.59 lakh metric tons.
The global tender is first call by the Indian Railways which runs on 115,000 km tracks, the world’s largest network under a single management.
International rail producers, Sumitomo Corp, Angang Group International, Voestalpine Schienen, East Metals, CRM Hong Kong, British Steel, France Rail and Atlantic Steel are expected to participate in the tender, having bidded for the one-lakh tonne tender snared by JSPL. fiinews.com
