ERI India builds technology-driven circular economy ecosystem

ERI of California and Mumbai-based Eco Recycling Ltd (Ecoreco) are to jointly bring state-of-the-art e-waste recycling and ITAD services to India at what will be known as “ERI India” from later this year.

The venture, co-owned by ERI and Ecoreco, will incorporate best practices from both organizations, including ERI’s innovation-driven circular solutions for responsibly recycling electronics, and Ecoreco’s local knowledge, infrastructure and regional networks in India and overseas.

“It’s an honor to partner with my long-time friend and colleague B.K. Soni and his superb organization Ecoreco, for this first-of-its-kind venture in India,” said John Shegerian, ERI’s Chairman and CEO.

“Ecoreco and ERI working together signals a uniquely powerful partnership that will bring best sustainability and circularity practices from the US and India together as one brand. Our work will be done in a radically transparent, end-to-end closed circular loop manner where materials will be kept out of landfills, responsibly recycled, and put back into the circular economy to produce new products in India, where there is a tremendous demand for such services. We are incredibly excited and honored to be entering into this strategic partnership with our long-time friends and now partners at Ecoreco,” Shegerian said on 31 Aug.

“Eco Recycling India is proud to partner with ERI USA, to establish ERI India and bring world-class e-waste recycling, ITAD and resource recovery capabilities to the Indian market,” said B.K. Soni, Chairman and Managing Director of Ecoreco. “By combining ERI’s proven expertise, advanced technologies and global standards with Ecoreco’s local knowledge, infrastructure and regional networks, ERI India will build a transparent, technology-driven and internationally compliant circular economy ecosystem in India. Together, we aim to transform end-of-life electronics into valuable resources, strengthen India’s resource security and contribute to the nation’s mission on critical minerals by recovering materials from the enormous secondary resources already present above the ground.”

At a ceremony held as part of the Material Recycling Association of India (MRAI) International Business Summit event in Tokyo this past weekend, Shegerian and Soni delivered remarks, as did a number of additional guest speakers, including Dan McCandless, Counselor, U.S. Embassy Tokyo; Satoshi Yoshida, Director for International Resource Circulation, Japan Ministry of the Environment; R. Madhu Sudan, Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of India in Tokyo; Ahmad Ghahreman, CEO and Founder, Cyclic Materials; Koichiro Nishimura, ITOCHU Manager and Member of the Board of Directors and President of ERI Japan; and Sanjay Mehta, President of MRAI.

With eight locations (and growing) in the United States, ERI’s strengths lie in its ability to provide circular solutions ranging from data destruction and the advanced shredding of end-of-life IT equipment to remarketing, recycling, logistics and regulatory compliance services. In addition to its achievement of highly transparent chain of custody management ensuring the tracking of each IT asset using proprietary software, ERI also possesses technologies leveraging AI image recognition and robotic arms to automatically and accurately sort shredded materials.

Since its establishment, ERI has recycled more than 3 billion pounds of e-waste in the US, and it has contributed significantly to the realization of a circular economy. While ERI has stringently audited ITAD and recycling partners in over 140 countries, this new partnership with Ecoreco is ERI’s first owned and ERI-branded location in India.

ERI is a leading international material resource recovery, ITAD and tech reuse and recycling company. ERI is certified at the highest level by all leading environmental and data security oversight organizations to de-manufacture, recycle, and refurbish every type of electronic device in an environmentally responsible manner. It is the first company in its industry to achieve ISO 27001 and SOC 2 Type II certifications for security and data protection. ERI has the capacity to process more than a billion pounds of electronic waste annually at its eight certified locations, serving every zip code in the United States. ERI’s mission is to protect people, the planet and privacy.

Ecoreco is India’s pioneering and publicly listed e-waste recycling and resource recovery company, with its equity shares listed on the BSE. Ecoreco provides integrated solutions spanning e-waste management, IT Asset Disposition (ITAD), secure data destruction, reverse logistics, EPR compliance, lithium-ion battery recycling and resource recovery. With a strong focus on technology, responsible recycling, data security and environmental compliance, Ecoreco has developed infrastructure and networks serving corporates, OEMs, government institutions and other stakeholders across India and internationally. Ecoreco operates certified facilities and is committed to advancing responsible recycling, circularity and the recovery of valuable materials from end-of-life products. Fiinews.com
