Inaugurated: Jowai-Ratacherra of NH-06

Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has urged the National Highway and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) to make small packages of its road projects and award contracts to local people in the North East region, providing employments.
“We have project involvement of Rs.1.50 lakh crore in the NE,” he said, reiterating the government’s highest priority for development of infrastructure in North East, especially in road sector.
“Prosperity comes from good road connectivity,” he said while inaugurating the 102-km Jowai-Ratacherra Section of National Highway-06 on 24 Sept 2018.
The Rs.683 crore road on Meghalaya-Assam border passes through cement and coal belts of the Meghalaya State.
The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) rehabilitated and ugraded the road to 2-land with paved shoulders.
The Union Government is also giving highest priority for regional connectivity through aviation and waterways, said Gadkari.
The Ministry is also considering options for developing waterways in the Brahmaputra River, he said. fiinews.com
