Army 2018-19 BE Rs.11,867 crore
Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion (DIPP) has issued 379 licenses to 230 Indian companies as of June 2018, out of which 70 licensee companies covering 114 licenses have commenced production in the defence sector.
This was disclosed by Minister of State for Defence Ministry Dr. Subhash Bhamre in a written reply to Lok Sabha on 25 July 2018.
As per Annual Production data furnished by 48 companies in financial year 2017-18, the value of their production was Rs.3,486.03 crore. The information of trials of production by such licensee companies are not compiled.
Separately, the Army has allocated Rs.11,742.42 crore Budget Estimate (BE) to Ordnance Factory Board (OFB) for 2018-19. It was Rs.11,867 crore in 2016-17 and Rs.11,413 crore in 2017-18.
Ordnance Factories manufacture various products like Artillery Guns, Small Arms, Mortars, Naval Guns, Tanks and Variants, Infantry Combat Vehicles and Variants, Mine Protected Vehicles, Logistic & Special Purpose Vehicles, Ammunition, Explosives, Parachutes, Troop Comfort Equipment and Day/Night Vision Devices for Armed Forces and internal security.
The factories manufacture approximately 600 Principal Items.
