41 of Namami Gange Programme completed.
The Indian government has withdrawn US$91.26 million till now from the World Bank sanctioned US$1 billion loan for projects on the main stem of Ganga river, Lok Sabha was told on 10 Aug 2017.
Forty-one of the 173 projects have been completed Namami Gange Programme for cleaning Ganga, said Minister of State for Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Balyan.
The World Bank funding is for Institutional Development and for construction of priority infrastructure projects for municipal waste water treatment and solid waste treatment in the five Ganga basin states of Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Bihar and West Bengal.
The Programme has been launched as a holistic approach covering all existing ongoing projects and new initiative.
The projects are for setting up sewage infrastructure, river front development, ghat and crematoria, ghat cleaning, river surface cleaning, afforestation and biodiversity conservation and rural sanitation among others. fii-news.com
