SJ-SMEC bids for projects
A newly merged group of two Singapore-Australian consultancies will be bidding for a wide range of projects in India, its officials said.
Singapore’s Surbana Jurong (SJ), owned by state-investment corporation Temasek, has merged with engineering and infrastructure consultant The SMEC Group, both having a strong presence in the Indian infrastructure and urban development and global projects.
SJ is working on land management system for the Amaravati state capital in Andhra Pradesh, having designed its master plan last year.
SMEC is involved in some of the largest infrastructure projects, latested being appointed to provide consultancy support services on the Karnataka Integrated and Sustainable Water Resources Management Investment Program. Its other projects included the Rohtang Highway Tunnel (one of the longest road tunnels in India), Karnataka State Highways Improvement Project and the Assam Power Sector Enhancement Investment Program.
One of the big gainers from the venture will be SMEC’s Bangalore centre through Cyient will handle global design work primarily around civil and structural, including Building Information Modeling (BIM).
“They would do all our global designing and engineering out of the Bangalore office,” said Andy Goodwin, managing director and chief executive officer of The SMEC Group.
SJ, which is expanding its consultancy services, has acquired SMEC for S$400 million.
The merged SJ-SMEC has become one of the largest consultancies in Asia with almost 10,000 employees and 90 offices in over 40 countries. fii-news.com
