Every aircraft is partly made in India

Airbus has established a strong engineering foothold in India, with a 47 vendor supply chain across the country.

“Every Airbus commercial aircraft produced today is partly made in India,” said its officials.

The ‘Make in India’ initiative is at the heart of Airbus’ India strategy as the market is also a top of the list global markets.

“India is very important and a growing market with a lot of opportunities,” Eric Schulz, executive vice president and chief of sales at Airbus told a media briefing at the Singapore Airshow 2018 opening on 6 Feb.

“Given the potential of growth in air traffic, India is very high on our list,” he stressed.

Airbus spends over US$500 million on procurement of parts for its aircraft.

Elaborating on the group’s strategy, a company spokesperson “We have created over 6,000 jobs across the Airbus supply chain across 47 suppliers in India”.

Airbus India Training Centre is expected to train up to 800 pilots and 200 maintenance engineers every year, said the spokesperson, citing fleet growth and pilot requirements over 20 years.

This would support the growth in the Indian aviation sector, expecting a fleet of about 1600 aircraft in 20 years requiring some 24,000 new pilots and maintenance engineers.

Airbus’s engineering footprint in India includes over 400 engineers at the Bengaluru centre as well as three dedicated design centres with partners, involving 1,000 engineers.
