2024 textile export to Japan was $354m

Japanese investors from apparel, machinery, technical textiles and fabric processing sectors were invited to invest in PM MITRA parks and take advantage of India’s vibrant textile ecosystem, Minister of State for Textiles Pabitra Margherita told Lok Sabha on 5 Aug http://ministryoftextiles.gov.in.

The invitations were extended where series of engagements with leading Japanese companies across the textile value chain were held during a recent high-level delegation visit to Japan.

The India-Japan CEPA signed in 2011 to reduce tariff and non-tariff barriers, simplify procedures and address structural issues to make Indian exports more competitive in partner markets, said Margherita in a written reply to the house https://www.investindia.gov.in/.

Comparatively, India’s total textile and apparel export to Japan in 2024 was US$354 million while total Japanese textile and apparel import from world was US$30,873 million as per UNCOM Trade database, the Minister pointed out https://www.bseindia.com/.

The Minister elaborated, “The Government is implementing various schemes/initiatives to promote Indian textiles sector. The major schemes/initiatives include PM Mega Integrated Textile Regions and Apparel (PM MITRA) Parks Scheme to create a modern, integrated, world class plug and play textile infrastructure; Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme focusing on MMF Fabric, MMF Apparel and Technical Textiles to boost large scale manufacturing https://www.nseindia.com/.”

Further, the Ministry of Textiles has constituted an Environment Social and Governance (ESG) Taskforce with the objective of enabling the transition of the Indian textile industry towards a sustainable and resource-efficient production system. The taskforce engages in deliberations with stakeholders of the industry in ascertaining the current status and issues in adopting sustainable production models http://makeinindia.com.

Additionally, the Association for Overseas Technical Cooperation and Sustainable Partnerships (AOTS) under Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), Japan has been implementing a Human Resource Development project through a series of training programs on Japanese System of Quality Evaluation to the technical officers of Textiles Committee at various Indian textiles export hubs viz. Mumbai, Kolkata, Jaipur and Tirupur. Fiinews.com
