Thermal power replacements

India has embarked on a mission to reduce carbon footprint by replace thermal power plants older than 25 years with modern energy efficient super critical ones, said #Piyush Goyal, Union Minister of State for Power, Coal, New & Renewable Energy and Mines.

#NTPC Ltd, the country’s largest power group, has already given the in-principle clearance to replace around 11,000 MW of its old thermal power plants in about five years. This would cost around Rs. 50,000 crores.

He has also call on State Governments to modernize their 25-year old thermal power plants with new super critical technology.

Among other initiatives, the ministry would provide free to each of over 16,000 households in about 800 inaccessible villages with a 300 KW Solar panel, 8-hour battery backup, 5 LED bulbs, an energy efficient ceiling fan and a solar power based mobile phone charging socket.
