With healthcare, as with financial services, data is the new currency, says Bhandari
France’s Fime has been empaneled as an official certifier to support India’s digital health initiative, Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), to create a seamless online platform for the healthcare ecosystem, enabling data to be shared seamlessly between healthcare providers while ensuring privacy.
Being implemented by the National Health Authority (NHA), ABDM will deploy Fime’s expertise and cloud-based open API testing tool, TrustAPI+, for helping healthcare stakeholders to ensure APIs are implemented correctly and join the ABDM ecosystem.
“We are working to create a national digital health ecosystem in an efficient, inclusive, affordable, timely and safe manner,” said Kiran Gopal, Director, National Health Authority (NHA).
“This is only possible if we can facilitate access to a wide-range of data, information and infrastructure services. Leveraging open, interoperable, standards-based digital systems will ensure the security, confidentiality and privacy of health-related personal information. Our testing partners are at the heart of realizing this vision.”
Fime’s consultants and testing experts are supporting healthcare providers including hospitals, diagnostic labs, insurance and clinical research companies to certify their API implementations.
By working with Fime, stakeholders can navigate the three certification milestones:
Milestone 1 – compulsory for all participants to enable health ID capture and verification for seamless customer registration.
Milestone 2 – for entities becoming Health Information Providers (HIP) to share digital records via health apps.
Milestone 3 – for entities becoming Health Information Users (HIU) to view patients’ medical history, with their consent.
“With healthcare, as with financial services, data is the new currency,” elaborated Angaj Bhandari, India and South Asia Managing Director at Fime.
“APIs have proven their value in facilitating the seamless and secure exchange of data between parties. India is taking the lead on bringing this value to healthcare.
“This will improve clinical decision making for healthcare providers, simplify telemedicine, ease access to treatment for patients and empower clinical research, among other benefits. Certification is a key enabler, protecting the integrity of the space, the APIs it relies on and ensuring the right parties are involved,” Bhandari said on 25 July 2022 in a release from Bengaluru.
