Chambers keen to sign MoU

The Indian Ambassador to Yangon, Saurabh Kumar, sees trade expansion between India and Myanmar in areas such as pharmacy, healthcare, transport, Food Processing, Steel, Renewable Energy, communication, Education and others.

Underlining the traditional trade ties between the two neighbouring countries, he said expanded trade would help revive the economies post-COVID-19.

Speaking at a webinar, organized by PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry, he emphasized the need to maintain a high-level of exchanges of the past to further progress.

The Myanmar Ambassador to India, Moe Kyaw Aung, shared the importance of trade relations in energy, infrastructure, health, transport and communication, and many more between the two countries.

He highlighted that India has always been an important country for Myanmar, and hoped that there will a lot of business and trade exchanges post-COVID-19 between them.

These will benefit the new and private business companies in both the countries to bounce back and grow themselves in the future, added the envoy.

PHD Chamber Secretary General Saurabh Sanyal reiterated the Chamber’s interest in signing MOU with India Myanmar Chamber of Commerce (IMCC) and the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (UMFCCI).

He acknowledged the chambers’ affirmative response to the MoU.

Pradeep Multani, Vice President, PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry, stressed for India to do a lot more for trading and reviving the economy during and post COVID-19.

The webinar heard of Myanmar being an important member of the Bay of Bengal countries, especially concerning technology, energy, trade among other sectors. India has 25% market share of telecom sector in Myanmar.

To understand the challenges and way forward between the two countries, PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry organized the webinar on “India-Myanmar Business Promotion, Challenges and Opportunities Post COVID-19”. It was held on 9 June 2020. fiinews.com
