Manufacturers told to make Indian self-sufficient in solar panel

MSMEs call for export subsidy

Solar panel manufactures have been told to make India self-reliant under the “Make in India” product programmes and help reduce imports of energy efficient panels.

The call was made by MSME Minister Nitin Gadkari via video conferencing on 23 May 2020 with the members of Maha Solar Sangathan to understand the opportunities in the solar energy sector.

He emphasized on the need of export enhancement along with import substitution to replace foreign imports with domestic production.

Gadkari highlighted the importance of solar energy and the industry’s potential to help reduce the electricity cost significantly.

The Minister listed energy extensive sectors such as agriculture, warehousing among that must use proper commercial solar energy such as solar water pump for irrigation and solar electricity for cold storage which can contribute towards reducing power cost.

Gadkari also sought industry feedback on some new, innovative and economically viable business model which can be implemented in various sector such as agriculture, warehousing to provide low cost sustainable energy.

He called on the industry to focus more on innovation, entrepreneurship, science and technology, research skill and experiences to convert the knowledge into wealth.

The Industry responded with questions and suggestions. The representatives sought addition of Solar PV in the list of technology under CLCSS scheme, revision of turnover limit in the new MSME definition, subsidy on export for MSME to encourage the manufacturing and reduce import etc. fiinews.com
