Ratan Tata joins IDG Ventures India

India’s leading technology venture capital firm IDG Ventures India said Mr. Ratan Tata, Chairman Emeritus of Tata Sons, has joined their advisory board as a Senior Advisor.
Speaking on this occasion, Sudhir Sethi, Founder & Chairman of IDG Ventures India Advisors, said “Mr. Tata is an icon when it comes to business leadership in the new age India. His rich experience in building businesses and expanding globally from India is of immense value to our portfolio companies. We are indeed privileged and honoured today”.
Mr. Tata will be advising IDG Ventures India and portfolio entrepreneurs on its overall business strategy and strengthening the organizational leadership.
IDG Ventures India marks its 9th year of operations this September.
Ever since inception, the firm has advised investments in 50 companies, committing over Rs1,000 crore in the Indian early stage technology venture capital market.
IDG Ventures India is an early investor in some of the leading players like Myntra, Lenskart, Zivame, Vserv, Manthan, Perfint, NestAway, Hiree, and Uniphore among others.
“Technology companies are changing the future across verticals like retail, healthcare, analytics and enterprise technology. The vision and experience of Mr. Ratan Tata will help us pave the way for homegrown disruptors to scale rapidly as category leaders in India and globally. This is a huge opportunity for IDG Ventures and our portfolio companies,” said Sethi.
Mr. Tata will be formally advising IDG Ventures India portfolio companies on business growth, global expansion, team building and leadership. He will also be a special invitee, on selective basis, in portfolio company board meetings on strategic matters.
IDG Ventures India recently strengthened its team to expand the partnership, paving the way for more active participation in the technology venture investment ecosystem.
IDG Ventures India is a leading technology venture capital fund in India. The fund is part of IDG Ventures, a global network of technology venture funds with over $6 billion under management with over 220 investee companies and 10 offices across Asia and North America.
