Trincomalee being developed as an energy hub
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has assured Sri Lanka of a broad-base support from India, including Sampur Solar Power Plant which will help the island nation achieve energy security.
“Sri Lanka has a special place in both our Neighbourhood First Policy and Vision ‘MAHASAGAR’. In the last four months, since President Disanayaka’s visit to India, we have made significant progress in our cooperation,” said PM Modi.
The agreement reached to build a multi-product pipeline, and to develop Trincomalee as an energy hub will benefit all Sri Lankans, he said during his three-day visit to Colombo from 4 Aug https://www.conexpoconagg.com/.
“The Grid Inter-Connectivity Agreement between the two countries will create opportunities for Sri Lanka to export electricity,” said PM Modi on 5 April.
Further, a 5,000 Solar Rooftop System will be inaugurated for religious places in Sri Lanka as well as support for the Sri Lanka Unique Digital Identity project https://fieo.org/.
“In the last 6 months alone, we have converted loans worth more than US$100 million into grants. Our bilateral ‘Debt Restructuring Agreement’ will provide immediate assistance and relief to the people of Sri Lanka. Today we have also decided to reduce interest rates. It symbolises that even today, India stands with the people of Sri Lanka,” said PM Modi.
For the social and economic development of the Eastern Provinces, a support package of approximately 2.4 billion Lankan Rupees will be provided, added the Prime Minister on official visit to Sri Lanka.

India and Sri Lanka have signed seven key agreements in defence, energy, digital infrastructure, health and trade sectors.

These were:
MoU between the India and Sri Lanka for Implementation of HVDC Interconnection for Import/Export of Power;
MoU between the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and Sri Lankan Ministry of Digital Economy on Cooperation in the Field of Sharing Successful Digital Solutions Implemented at Population Scale for Digital Transformation;
MoU between the India, Sri Lanka, and the United Arab Emirates for Cooperation in Development of Trincomalee as an Energy Hub;
MoU between India and Sri Lanka on Defence Cooperation;
MoU on Multi-sectoral Grant Assistance for Eastern Province;
MoU between the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the Sri Lankan Ministry of Health & Mass Media of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka on Cooperation in the Field of Health & Medicine;
MoU on Pharmacopoeial Cooperation between the Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission, and The National Medicines Regulatory Authority of Sri Lanka.
