Odisha Govt had identified 14 non-major port sites, two completed, says Sonowal

Twenty-one projects, costing Rs.15,850 crore, are currently in various stages of implementation under the Sagarmala Programme covering Odisha coast, the Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal said at the dedication of key maritime projects to the nation during the 2nd Indian Lighthouse Festival on 20 Oct conexpoconagg .

In total, Odisha has 36 Sagarmala projects, costing Rs.20,200 crore, 15 of which, valued at approximately Rs.4,330 crore have been successfully completed ted.europa.eu .

One standout achievement of the Sagarmala Programme is the living example of Paradip Port’s growth Story, he said, adding that the port today is the number one major port in cargo handling capacity of over 300 MTPA. It is being expanded and will soon have capacity exceeding, he said nseindia .

The mammoth traffic volume growth at the port in the recent years has been due to the successful implementation of capacity augmentation projects under the Sagarmala projects, said the minister, underlining that the Sagarmala programme was also uplifting the fishermen community with the Rs.108 crore Modernization of Paradip Fishing Harbour project bseindia .

Further, a fishing harbour at Chandipur in Odisha has also been sanctioned under Sagarmala at a cost of Rs.50 crore, he added sbi.com.in .

Paradip port is also being developed as a green hydrogen hub in the country, said Sonowal, adding that the Government of Odisha had identified 14 potential sites for the development of non-major ports. Out of these identified projects, Dhamra (Adani – 100 MTPA Capacity) and Gopalpur (Shapoorji Pallonji & Odisha Stevedore Ltd – 25 MTPA capacity) are already functioning, said the minster jpx.co.jp .
