Sonowal has set Jan’24 deadline for Rs.150cr North East projects

More than Rs.1,100 crores have been granted for the development of 25 projects in inland waterways in the Northeast region including Rs.850 crores for 15 projects in Assam, says Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways and Ayush, Sarbananda Sonowal.

Further, his ministry has identified projects worth Rs.150 crore and set timeframe for competition of each project by January 2024.

These are seven floating jettings on Brahmaputra, a permanent jetty at Bogibeel, a permanent jetty at Sonamura in Tripura, a floating jetty at Bogibeel and Pandu and renovations of jetty at Badarpur.

The Minister has directed the officials to complete the seven floating jetties at Jogighopa, Pandu, Biswanath, Nimati, Bindhakata, Uriamghat and Sadiya.

He has also sought deadline completion of permanent jetties at Bogibeel in Dibrugarh, renovation of Jetty at Badarpur in Karimganj.

One permanent jetty being constructed at Sonamura in Tripura is due for completion, said Sonowal who reviewed progress of work on 15 floating jetties in Brahmaputra and 15 jetties in Barak River.

For ensuring smooth passage of ships, he directed the IWAI officials to regularly dredge 88 shallow passages identified on Brahmaputra.

“We had a very fruitful review meeting on 21 Nov 2023 with the top officials of both the ministries regarding progress of critical projects in the Northeast,” said the Minister, adding that critical projects in the North East region have been identified and some will be operational by January 2024.

The Ministry of Ayush is currently constructing projects worth ₹286 crores across the Northeast. The Minister directed his officials to scale up and speed up the projects.

Foundation stones are to be laid in Jan 2024 for a Rs.80.66 crore Yoga & Naturopathy hospital in Dibrugarh and for the new building of Regional Research Institute of Homoeopathy (RRIH) as well as Rs.34.33 crore integrated Ayush Wellness Centre at Guwahati.

He has told officials to accelerate the completion of G+3 and G+2 buildings at Central Ayurveda Research Institute (CARI) in Guwahati, as the Rs.10.45 crore buildings are scheduled for inauguration by Dec 2023.

More than 33 integrated Ayush hospitals (IAH) have been approved in the region, nine of which are already functional. Eight Ayush education institutions (UG and PG) are being supported by the Ministry.

Three new Ayush institutes – for Sowa Rigpa in Gangtok, for Homoeopathy in Keirao, Manipur and one in Dudhnoi – have been approved.

In FY2022-23, more than 155 Ayush dispensaries were approved, with more than 100 in Assam, he said. fiinews.com
