Work in progress on the 50-km 4-lane Amritsar Bypass
Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has inspected the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Greenfield Expressway (DAK) and Amritsar Bypass during his stay in Punjab on 19 Oct 2023.
In all, 5 greenfield and economic corridors are being built in Punjab at a cost of Rs.29,000 crore, said MoRTH.
Driving time from Amritsar to Delhi will be reduced to 4 hours with the completion of 669-km greenfield Delhi-Amritsar-Katra expressway which is being built at a cost of Rs.40,000 crore. Presently, the 727-km distance is covered in 6 hours from Delhi to Katra.
Work has started on the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) starting from Delhi.
Work is in progress on the 296-km of the 399-km expressway section in Punjab while 137-km is being built in Haryana.
Construction is progressing on the first 120-km of the 135-km Jammu and Kashmir expressway. It will pass through Punjab’s industrial areas like Patiala, Sangrur, Malerkotla, Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Gurdaspur.
A major feature is the 1,300-m cable stayed bridge over Beas River, said MoRTH following the Ministerial inspection of projects.
The expressway will connect the major religious places of the Sikh community, the Golden Temple, Sultanpur Lodhi Gurdwara in Kapurthala district, Goindwal Sahib Gurdwara, Khandur Sahib Gurdwara, Gurdwara Darbar Sahib (Taran Taran) till Mata Darbar Vaishno Devi in Katra.
Work is also in progress on the 50-km 4-lane Amritsar bypass. It is being built at a cost of Rs.1,475 crore. With its completion, there will be better connectivity from Tarn Taran to Amritsar Airport.
The bypass will prove effective in solving the traffic problem of Amritsar, said MoRTH. Fiinews.com
