IEA experts to train PPAC interns on modelling and statistics
Petroleum Planning & Analysis Cell (PPAC), in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG), and the Paris-headquartered International Energy Agency (IEA) are to strengthen cooperation in the field of data and research & enhance global energy security, stability, and sustainability.
This partnership will lead to an extensive exchange of knowledge, said MoPNG in an announcement on the PPAC-IEA Statement of Intent signed on 7 Feb 2023 on sidelines of India Energy Week held 6-8 February 2023 at Bengaluru.
The SoI will initiate the cooperation in the energy sector between PPAC and IEA with various areas of cooperation as specified in the SoI.
Further, the comprehensive datasets, reports and analysis will be made available for better analysis and interpretation.
IEA experts are to help interns develop skillsets required for challenges posed by energy transition.
The SoI will provide access to the international thought and view in the energy sector.
Both the parties intend to cooperate under the SoI on the areas of energy market data and statistics, biofuels (bioethanol and biodiesel) and Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG) as well as other emerging fuels. It will also provide information on global oil and gas markets and technologies relevant for the oil & gas sector.
PPAC-IEA will carry out joint studies, including on demand and supply of oil & gas, growth and stability of global and regional oil & gas markets, and economic advantages of alternative fuels. Both the parties also propose to constitute working groups in specific areas of cooperation.
Meanwhile, IEA Executive Director Fatih Birol had discussed with Prime Minister Narendra Modi a wide-range of energy policy issues, including renewables, hydrogen and clean energy supply chains as well as India’s Presidency of the G20 this year.
The bilateral meeting took place 6 Feb at the Bengaluru-hosted India Energy Week.
During the subsequent bilateral meeting, Dr Birol presented the Prime Minister with a copy of the IEA’s new report on the potential global benefits of India’s Lifestyle for Environment initiative and outlined the main findings. fiinews.com
