Minister wants textile exports raised to $100bn
The economic value of the Indian textile sector will be US$250 billion collectively from domestic and international markets, if exports are raised to US$100 billion in the next 5-6 years.
Giving this estimates, Textile Minister Piyush Goyal noted that last year’s textile exports were approximately US$42 billion.
He also called on cotton industry stakeholders to discuss the strategy to ensure traceability of cotton and better value of the cotton products.
Goyal spoke to members of Export Promotion Councils via video conference on 26 Oct 2022.
The virtual meeting was convened with senior representatives of all the 11 Export Promotion Councils under the Ministry of Textiles including Apparel Export Promotion Council, The Cotton Textiles Export Promotion Council, Carpet Export Promotion Council, Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts and other industry stakeholders. fiinews.com
