The CSIR has been instrumental towards building India-Mexico relationship, says Dr Mande
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Marcelo Ebrard, has called for strengthening existing cooperation between India and Mexico and extending cooperation to new areas like vaccines, Information Technology, green revolution, health, biotechnology and space.
He also underlined the need to strengthen the collaborations that existed between the two countries since 1975 and work together so that new areas of collaboration in S&T can pick up momentum with an accelerated mechanism in place.
Federico Salas, Ambassador of Mexico to India, underscored that both the countries have several national institutions of importance working together, and the scope of such collaborations needs to increase for the benefit of both countries.
“A number of joint projects have been implemented between the two countries in different fields of science & technology to foster collaborative research. This has helped expand networking between scientific communities of both the countries,” Minister of State for Science & Technology Dr. Jitendra Singh said at the meeting with the Mexican Minister and his delegation in New Delhi.
He noted that “The Programme of Cooperation (PoC) has been renewed by both countries from time to time, and they have agreed to make a new call for joint proposals in different areas of science & technology.
India is interested in renewing PoC further with a special focus on working in the areas of Health, Human Security and Energy in the coming years, added Dr. Singh on 31 Mar 2022.
The current POC for the year 2020-22 between the Department of Science and Technology, Ministry of Science and Technology, and the National Council of Science and Technology (CONACYT) of Mexico was concluded on 2 December 2019.
The Modalities of cooperation included exchange of students, scientists, researchers, specialists and scholars for the development of programmes, joint research projects of high impact with short-term results on science, technology and innovation, scientific workshops, seminars, symposia, conferences, congresses and other meetings.
Director General, Council for Scientific and Industrial Research, Dr. Shekhar Mande, highlighted collaboration possibilities in biofuels, carbon neutrality and in the chemical sector.
Dr. Mande, in a separate meeting with the Mexican delegation, shared that the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) is India’s premier R&D organization with 37 research laboratories spread across the country with expertise in diverse S&T disciplines.
