Kamaz ready to supply LNG vehicles to India
The Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) sector in India is expecting an investment of US$3-4 billion in CNG equipment, US$50-60 billion through CNG vehicles and US$1-1.5 billion via the service market by 2030.
This huge market potential was given by speakers at the first-ever India-Russia webinar on the use of natural gas as a motor fuel, organized under by the Indian Petroleum and Natural Gas Ministry with the Russian Energy Ministry on 2 Oct 2020.
India is expanding its gas distribution network through City Gas to over 400 districts across 27 states and Union Territories.
The Russian Natural Gas Vehicles Association highlighted “the vast scope for Natural Gas in the automobile industry, both in Russia and India and the need for both the counties in increasing the share of Natural gas as a motor fuel”.
The Russian automobile company Kamaz gave a comprehensive overview of the designs of various LNG vehicles, adding that the company is ready for the Indian market.
Rostec, with a significant share of Russia’s industrial assets, shared technological and equipment aspects of LNG production and the supply chain.
India is expected to have 120,000 LNG vehicles by 2030 when the road transport is expecting 1.2-3 MMTPA LNG demand and further growth to 4.5 MMTPA by 2035.
Indian Ambassador to Russia, D B Venkatesh Varma assured that the Indian Embassy would extend all possible support for making this partnership in the energy sector more robust.
India and Russia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding, the implementation of which include the exchange of insights from both sides for stimulating penetration of natural gas as motor fuel in both our countries, Tarun Kapoor, Secretary of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Ministry, told the webinar.
