Shukla seeks clarity on Defence & Aerospace status
The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) has urged the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to classifying Defence & Aerospace Sector as an essential service and allow manufacturing across all areas and zones in the country.
Making the call, S P Shukla, Chairman, FICCI Defence & Aerospace Committee, said, “Defence is a strategically important sector and is necessary to be open for manufacturing in the given scenario of uncertainty to ensure the operational preparedness and readiness of our armed forces.”
After many years of efforts by Indian Defence & Aerospace industry, it has become a part of global supply chain, he pointed out.
“A prolonged closure of units may affect their delivery of contractual obligations,” Shukla cautioned in FICCI release on 15 Apr 2020.
He welcomed the MHA Guideline No. 40-3/2020-DM-I(A) dated 15th April 2020 specifying the industrial activities/operations that can be resumed.
But was quick to seek clarity on the manufacturing and services by Defence & Aerospace industry on behalf of the Indian Defence & Aerospace Industry.
FICCI had recently submitted a note to the Government on ‘Post Lockdown: Opening of Priorities Sector’ underlining Defence to be considered as an essential sector. fiinews.com
