Airlines seek more flying rights
India recorded 6.3 crore international travelers 2018, up 7.3% from 5.9 crore in 2017, the Times of India reported on 14 Mar 2019.
But the growth was below industry expectations.
“The 7.2% growth of international travelers could have been much more buts constrained by two factors,” an airline official was quoted as saying.
He pointed out that India was not increasing flying rights to major airlines like Emirates, Qatar Airways, Singapore Airlines and Turkish Airlines.
Airlines are also facing slot constrains at major airports, especially Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore. This makes it “very difficult” to add flights at the three airports.
