Project completion in five years
The Government has approved Surat Metro Rail Project with two Corridors of combined 40.35 km length.
Estimated to cost Rs.12,020.32 crore, the metro will be completed in 5 years, said the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs in a release on 9 Mar 2019.
The project will be implemented by Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) Ltd.
It will be financed through equity from the Indian Government and Government of Gujarat on 50:50 basis as well as loans from bilateral/ multilateral agencies.
The project will provide continuous availability of affordable, reliable, safe, secure and seamless transport system in the urban agglomeration of the city.
Some of the highlights:
Corridor-1 — Sarthana to Dream City line is 21.61-km comprising of 6.47-km underground and 15.14-km elevated.
It will connect 20 metro stations (via Sarthana, Nature Park ,Kapodra, Labheshwar Chowk area, Central Ware House, Surat Railway Station, Maskati Hospital, Gandhi Baug, Majura Gate, Roopali Canal, Dream City).
Corridor-2 — 18.74-km Bhesan to Saroli line is all elevated and will connect 18 stations via Bhesan, Ugat Vaarigruh, Palanpur Road, LP Savani School, Adajan Gam, Aquarium, Majuragate, Kamela Darwaza, Magob and Sarol.
Dream City and Bhesan will have maintenance facilities.
The proposed corridors will be having Multimodal Integration, and will have feeder network of Bus, Intermediate Public Transport (IPT) and Non-Motorized Transport (NMT). fiinews.com
