Success of Singapore businesses in India
India’s High Commissioner to Singapore, Jawed Ashraf, has launched a book written by eminent persons, mostly in Singapore, with strong experience and knowledge of India.
Speaking at the launch on 25 Jan 2019, Jawed Ashraf praised the breadth and range of topics covered in the 38 chapters of the “India’s Next Leap Forward: Essays on its Socio-Economy”.
The chapters cover broader economic trends in India and policy reforms, assessment of sectors, experience of businesses in India and even India’s key bilateral relationships.
Co-authored by Singapore-based journalists Gurdip Singh and Sameer C. Mohindru, the book looks at many issues taken up by academics, researchers, businessmen, consultants, educationists and management professionals.
The experience of some of the most prominent Singapore companies in India is a useful guide for those planning to do business in India, because each country has its own way of doing business, beyond the policies, regulations, decision making systems and processes, and state of infrastructure and skills, he said.
There are also insights from the perspective of investors on what has changed and what needs to be done to further improve the business environment in India.
The book should, therefore, spark a dialogue and, also open the eyes of Singaporean businesses to the vast opportunities in India.
The High Commissioner described how the process of reforms continues to gain momentum in a democratic and federal framework and in the context of diverse economic demands and resource constraints.
“So, we need to do more to spread the message on India. For that reason, the book serves a useful purpose,” he said.
Reviewing the book at the launch, Singapore entrepreneurs, Dr Charles Chow highlighted India’s progress but called for more and more improvements in the system, rules and regulations as many contributing authors have expressed their opinions through the 38-chapters in the book.
The book launch, held as part of a seminar on the India-Singapore Trade: Sustainability, Strengths and Strategies – Making it work for Small Businesses, was attended by the Federation of Indian Export Organization President Ganesh Kumar Gupta, FIEO Regional Chairman (WR) Khalid Khan, FIEO DG & CEO Ajay Sahai.
Present at the book launch was Ambassador K. Kesavapany, the contributor of a chapter on “Global Trade: A Case for Glasnost”, as well as Dr T. Chandroo, the chairman of the Singapore Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry who contributed a chapter on “Education: Training the Trainers”.
FIEO also led over 100 Indian export organizations at the India Week, which was organized by the Singapore event company, de ideaz, a Singapore tabloid – Tabla! and publishing house Singapore Press Holdings as well as supported by Global Hindi Foundation and Cherishma Consulting of Singapore.
It is an anthology of essays on India’s socio-economy and a sequel to an earlier compendium of essays by the duo “What’s UP! What’s Down! 2013-14.
Published by Singapore’s 7Clicks Media, the book is available in Kindle Edition at Rs.281.00 on Amazon.in.
