First Skoda SUV by 2020
Volkswagen has opened a facility in Pune, a first step in the German Group’s Euro1 billion (Rs.7,900 crore) to make cars for the Indian market.
The R&D facility, opened on 19 Jan 2019, calls for Rs.2,000crore investment to increase local content in made in India cars.
It will focus on designing products for the Indian customers.
The facility is expected to roll out Skoda and Volkswagen models, starting with mid-size SUV, in 2020-21.
Plans are to showcase first Skoda SUV model at the Auto Expo in Greater Noida in 2020.
Volkswagen target is to produce 1.8-1.9 lakh units at peak in 2020-21, according to industry reports. fiinews.com
