Campus to be earthquake-proof

Naveen Chopra.
The Chopras Group aims to start construction of a campus in the Dehradun hills this year if all approvals are granted by relevant authorities, its founder and chairman Naveen Chopra said.

“We are filing our architectural plan for the University of North-West Himalayas, and hope to start building before the moonsoon or just after the monsoon,” he said after opening the group’s Singapore regional office on 21 Feb 2018.

“We have got permission from the state government of Uttarakhand and have just recevied permission for change in land use for building the campus,” he said of the univeristy developmnt.

“We are very confident that the approval process will not hold the project,” he stressed.

The architectural plan incorporates earthquake-proof technologies for the campus which is located on a Seismic microzonation area, some 3,500 ft above sea level.

The university, expected to take in first batch of students from September 2022, is being built by The Chopras’ non-profit Shivalik Hills Foundation Trust.

The university will have multi-faculties from international learning insitutes. It will accommodate Indians as well as international students and researchers.

Research work, covering areas such as solar energy, will commence as soon as the campus takes in students.

The Chopras has built working relationships with more than 600 universities and placed students in over 2,000 universities during the 23-year of its education services.

“Most major universities in the world are aware of our work and activities,” added Natasha Chopra, co-founder and managing director of the group.

More than 250,000 students goes abroad every year for higher studies, which means India needs a large number of universities, she estimated.

With the launch of Singapore operations, The Chopras aim to reach out to professionals and students across key markets in South East Asia.

“The Chopras have a long-term investment plans to drive business growth,” stressed Shan Chopra, managing partner of the family-owned group.

The company is undergoing major initiatives. It is investing in leadership, technology and streaming corporate infrastructure and services for smooth integration globally, he said.

The Chopras regional office will initially offer Psychometrics, Higher Education Management, Test & Language Preparation, and an exclusive set of EB-5 investment opportunities in the United States.

Recently, the group has joined forces with America’s Immigrant Investor Regional Centre to market the EB-5 programme which grants US visas on investment basis. fii-news.com
