JNPT to double container capacity
Twenty-four companies have offered to invest over Rs.60,000 crore in a special economic zone (SEZ) adjoining Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT), Shipping and Ports Minister Nitin Gadkari.
Speaking at a seminar organised by Moneycontrol and Free Press Journal in Mumbai on 9 Dec 2017, he said one of the company is planning to invest Rs.6,000.
JNPT is investing Rs.4,000 crore in the 277-hectare SEZ. It is also investing Rs.7,900-crore to more than double its container handling capacity.
Foxconn and Tesla were among the investors keen on JNPT SEZ, according to media reports.
Gadkari said works of over Rs.2 lakh crore have already started under the ‘Sagarmala’ project which includes Rs.1 lakh crore for the port-rail connectivity.
The ministry is constructing the Rs.6,000 crore Indore-Manmad railway line.
Elsewhere in Mumbai, it is investing Rs 1,000 crore to build a cruise terminal. fii-news.com
