Pre-feasibility study done on proposed project

Assam state government is offer at Rs.267 crore (US$41.08 million) a terminal project at Karimganj as part of its Inland Water Transport network development.

Pre-feasibility study for the proposed terminal to be developed on PPP mode has already been done.

Project contours: The development of terminal involves land development, creation of common infrastructure facilities, port works such as quays and trestle, bank shore protection, cargo terminal infrastructure, cargo handling equipment’s, provision of external communication networks.

Investment Opportunities: Develop, operate and maintain the terminal on PPP mode.

Connectivity Karimganj is connected by National Highway (NH) 44 which connects to NH40 and runs through Meghalaya via Shillong and terminates at NH37 at Jorabat near Guwahati. NH37 is one of the main National Highways in Assam; it connects all the districts on the southern bank of River Brahmaputra and also to NH31, which in turn connects Assam to West Bengal and rest of India.

The proposed site is at distance of 2 km from the Karimganj Railway Station which connects it to West Bengal and beyond to rest of India.

The nearest airport is the Silchar Airport, which is about 86-km away.
