Gadkari seeks innovation and technology for river cleaning
Pending Sewerage Infrastructure Projects will be take off by December 2018 under Namami Gange Programme which covers Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Delhi.
Assuring this, Minister of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation Nitin Gadkari called for innovative methods and use of latest technology for cleaning not only Ganga but its tributaries like Alaknanda, Bhagirathi, Ramganga, Kali, Hindon among others.
He also stressed that delay in file work and tendering process will not be tolerated.
The minister, expressing displeasure, has told his officials to change this perception that nothing is being done in Namami Gange by transparent, corruption free, time bound and quality work.
He reviewed the projects in New Delhi on 31 Oct 2017 and sought remedies to loopholes and reasons for delay in the entire process of preparing Detailed Project Reports, payments to contractors and finalisation of tenders.
A total of 97 towns (Class I to Class VI) are situated along main stem of River Ganga, discharging 2,593 million litres per day of sewage.
Necessary sewerage management interventions have been taken up in 55 towns.
Approval is expected shortly for projects at Behrampur and Nabadwip in West Bengal. fii-news.com
