DGF sets up world class learning centre in Mumbai corporate office.
DHL Global Forwarding (DGF) has named its new in-house training centre Nalanda, after the 7th century BC university in the northern state of Bihar where scholars travelled from China, Korea, Tibet and Central Asia to study and gain wisdom.
Located within the Mumbai office, Nalanda underlines DGF’s desire for knowledge, expertise, skill and training for its employees. It was launched in April and reflects the spirit of Nalanda.
DGF said this first of its kind centre in India will also be used for sharing knowledge and training its customers, suppliers and officials from Indian authorities.
“We are happy to share our experiences from Nalanda as we have always engaged with our customers and authorities through seminars and events,” said George Lawson, CEO of DGF India, explaining the importance of the in-house centre.
The centre has started various training programmes, including DHL’s Certified program, Induction for new staff along with Health and Safety training for its employees.
The programmes also cover procedures related to the Indian Goods and Services Tax (GST), scheduled for implementation from 1 July 2017.
GST in India will bring a huge change, not just in taxation, but in the way business will be done, believes Lawson, highlighting the urgent pace of trainings and skilling DGF employees.
”Our employees deal with customers and suppliers across the world and are regularly kept abreast of national and global developments to continuously support our customers, both in India and the network, to meet their logistics needs,” he pointed out.
Nalanda was a pivotal learning centre for scholars and students centuries ago, and as such DGF’s Nalanda will be a significant learning centre for its people working with colleagues across the globe.
“Our aspiration is to be the most customer-centric logistics company. To do that we rely on people, their attitude and their expertise which is key to delivering on that vision of being the most customer-centric,” he pointed out. DGF employees are trained in all these aspects.
DHL is the first logistics company in the world to run a Certified program for all its employees. All 850 employees at DGF India have undergone the Certified International Forwarder program.
Further, every new DGF employee is put through a series of in-house and on the job training programmes. This ensures standardization across DGF’s global network which helps them to successfully manage forwarding requirements of their customers across the world.
“We have created Nalanda so that we can provide training programmes to develop the knowledge, aptitude and expertise of our employees. The idea is to help our people ultimately reach their full potential,” said Lawson, explaining that this supports the company’s purpose – connecting people and improving their lives. fii-news.com
