SSBR enables making of high performance tyres
India needs to have #Solutions Styrene Butadiene Rubber (SSBR) producers for supplying to the domestic tyre making industry.
Industry sources said SSBR is currently imported for a nominal use in locally made tyres, which were already facing stiff price competition from tyres imported from China.
SSBR, which is part of the Synthetic Rubber (SR), is used in blending with natural rubber to produce high performance tyres is expected to increase to about 25 per cent in about five years.
A 150,000 tonne/year SSBR plant will benefit tyre manufacturers grouping in the Chennai Automobile Hub, the source said.
Emulsion Styrene Butadiene Rubber (ESBR) is currently main Synthetic Rubber blend with natural rubber to make tyres. fii-news.com
