Girls’ engineering team commended
Twelve teams of engineering students from India competed in the four-day marathon, testing innovation in fuel-efficiency on prototype light vehicles.
India’s Team Panthera of engineering students has won a perseverance and spirit award at the #Shell Eco Marathon (SEM) held in Singapore 16-19 March 2017.
The all girls Panthera team from #Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women (IGDTUW) took the Perseverance and Spirit of the Event award for continuously showing perseverance on the road at SEM.
Panthera and 11 other Indian student teams took part in the SEM which innovative ideas on fuel savings from 123 Asian student teams.
“India’s participation in SEM past few years has been commendable and we are delighted to see an overwhelming response from student teams this year as well,” said #Nitin Prasad, #Shell India County Chairman.
“I am sure they will inspire many others to be part in the coming years,” he said.
Manupriya Vats, Team Manager of Panthera, added “We are proud to be Asia’s only all women team to build an energy efficient vehicle offering great mileage.
“Reaching the final phase pf Shell Eco-marathon is a great achievement for us and this has further motivated our team to double our efforts to design and build our prototype, Iris 2.0. We hope to make our university and country proud,” said Vats.
Panthera’s Kashika Tripathi, 20, added “Participating in Shell Eco-marathon Asia has helped prove to ourselves and others that machines and tools can equally belong in the hands of women.
“We hope to inspire more girls back home and from around the region to be bold in pursuing careers in science and engineering,” she said. fii-news.com
