Global recognition
Indian companies are being recognized for their engineering and skill capabilities globally, said Satish Madhavan, general manager at Coimbatore-headquartered Kavin Engineering and Services Pte Ltd.
“Indian engineering companies have a promising future, but they have to improve their marketing capabilities,” he said at the Offshore South East Asia (OSEA) conference and exhibition held 29-November to 2 December in Singapore.
He stressed on the need for further improve on skill, pointing out that global projects were now seeking cost-effective engineering services.
He cited the example of Kavin offering multi-discipline solutions to compete with engineering multi-national corporations that dominates the international markets.
Kavin, formed in 2002, has completed 250 projects in Americas, the Middle East, South East Asia and Africa.
But international energy projects, being fewer available in the oil and gas sector, are seeking cost-effective solutions and low cost man-hour services as capital expenditures have been revised due to weaker earnings from lower crude oil prices.
Kavin is now focused on reducing man-hour costs to stay ahead of the competition, Madhavan stressed.
He also noted the increase in global corporations setting up back-room engineering service offices in India.
“We have an office in Singapore but we are planning to do a lot of engineering work in India,” he said.
“India is a good market and has potential of offering a wide range of engineering services. India is doing a lot of backroom for international projects,” said Madhavan.
Kavin is also positioning itself for the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation projects, especially a US$5 billion hydrocarbon development in the offshore KG Basin.
Among its ongoing contracts, Kavin is providing services to Oil India Ltd’s Secondary Tank Farm project for petroleum storage in Assam. fii-news.com
