The government is to order Rs.3 lakh crore worth of defence acquisition on cumulative basis by the end of this financial year, having cleared more than Rs2 lakh crore since 2014.
Disclosing this, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar emphasized the government commitment on modernizing the armed forces.
Parrikkar also commended Indian Navy for indigenously designing and constructing the advanced Front line Warships such as Destroyers, Frigates, Anti-Submarine Warfare Corvettes, Landing Crafts and is in the midst of constructing an Aircraft carrier.
Keeping with “Make-in-India” initiative, the indigenous content of the latest Naval Platforms is a staggering 85-90%, he noted.

The minister was speaking at an International Seminar on Current and Future Challenges in Design and Construction of Underwater Vehicles, organized by Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry with participation of Indian Navy at Federation House, New Delhi, on November 23, 2016. fii-news.com
