India’s nuclear programme has made rapid strides in the last two years, assured Union Minister of State Dr Jitendra Singh at the “Hall of Nuclear Power” set up by Department of Atomic Energy in New Delhi.
Possibilities being explored to set up more nuclear installations in other Northern States including Punjab and Uttarakhand, he said, pointing to one being set up North of Delhi at Gorakhpur in Haryana state two years ago.
Most of the nuclear activities have been in the Western and Southern parts of India.
India is now among the frontline nations in its nuclear programme and in the years to come, nuclear energy will be a major source of energy for the country’s growing needs said Singh who is responsible for Atomic Energy.
India’s claim to membership of Nuclear Suppliers Group is also being increasingly accepted by the world nations, he added during a visit to the department’s headquarters in the national capital on November 6, 2016. fii-news.com
