Lightbox for start-ups
India-focused venture capitalist Lightbox will invest in another two or two companies this year, said its partner Sid Talwar.
“We will be putting money in another one or two companies in fiscal year ending March 2017,” he said.
Lightbox has placed US$50 million of its US$200 million funds in a number of start-ups, including Droom, Melorra, Furlenco and Faasos.
Lightbox arranges investments from a wide range of sources, including endowment and pension funds, family and individual wealths from across the world.
Talwar is bullish on VC funding in India.
“There is no shortage of start-ups looking for funding,” he said of the thousands of start-ups in India.
There are about 700 funding companies in India but VC funds are about 40, he estimated.
Talwar believes India’s VC segment of financing is still in early stage and will matured in about four years.
India received US$7 billion of VC funds last year, US$6.5 billion of which came from overseas.
He estimates Indian VC financing at US$7-US$10 billion a year in the coming years. fii-news.com
