Rural road allocation
The government has raised rural road development budget to Rs19,000 Crore in 2015-16 from Rs9,000 Crore in 2012-13, assuring its ongoing support to the nation-wide Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) programme.
Rural Development Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said that so far 65 percent of the rural habitations have been connected with all-weather roads and remaining 35 percent will be completed by March, 2019.
Speaking in parliament on Aug 2, 2016, he said out of 1,83,599 habitations, 151,098 had already been sanctioned which 82 percent of the total for rural road connectivity.
Funding for the programme in the States have been raised to 42 percent from 32 per cent previously.
